Elephant Tracking from L. Pancasila
1+ Days (Package Q)

We are pleased to be working with the villagers of L. Pancasila in prime Sumatran Elephant habitat.   Part of the Gunung Leuser ecosystem, this area is now fighting against the palm oil expansion and hope to bring more value to keeping the jungle intact.  Unfortunately prime elephant habitat is also prime palm oil land, and up until now the elephants continue to lose their home at alarming rates.  This tiny village is working hard to promote and protect it's surrounding jungles and invite tourists to spend some time.  This area sees very few foreigners, and in fact the locals speak almost no English, but they look forward to learning as they welcome foreigners to their home.

If you are looking for an area that is less touristy, this is it.  There are no tourist amenities here.  You can come for a day or a few days.  When you book a trek it includes your transport from Bukit Lawang, basic accommodation and all meals during your trek and at local homes while in the village.  We also provide a Guide from Bukit Lawang who will accompany you during your visit and trek who will also act as your translator.

We know most visitors will also be curious about orangutans and will want to know if they can see orangutans here as well.  Yes, it is the same jungle, the difference is that here the orangutans you see will be wild.  Your chances of sightings may be lower than in Bukit Lawang but remember that in Bukit Lawang you see more orangutans because most on a one or two-day trek are likely to be semi-wild and tend to be easier to locate.  And  as with any jungle trek, it is impossible to guarantee exactly what you will see but here you have the chance to see all the same animals you would see on a trek from Bukit Lawang, with the bonus that here they are not as used to people.

For those who really want a good chance to see elephant tracks (footprints, mud markings, trails and mud baths) without having to do a 4 or 5 day trek, this is the place.  Your chances of finding tracks on a one or two -day trek are very good and your chances of seeing elephants is fair (whereas chances of seeing tracks from Bukit Lawang on a 4+-day trek are extremely low).  And supporting this community will make you feel good too, they really need the support and are happy to welcome you!
